Teaching an “Old Dog” New Tricks!
Friday, June 5th, 2009
Today I will be attending a seminar led by Jennifer Abernethy of “The Sales Lounge”, at Tysons Corner. My first contact with Jennifer was a luncheon sponsored by The Tower Club where we had an introduction to the use of social networking tools for marketing our businesses. If that session was “101″ today is probably the “102″ course.
On my way to Tysons I will stop off at Target to purchase a “Flip” digital video camera. I plan to use this to post video of my upcoming (next week) trip to Europe and Russia. These video clips will then be posted on YouTube and distributed here on my website and also on Facebook and Twitter.
The future, I am told, is all about video. The written word will be replaced by it. We will see. Regardless, we here at The Richard Norman Company are determined to keep up with the times or even be ahead of the curve of technology so our clients will be able to benefit from our knowledge and expertise.
Stay tuned for video from Russia next week and for exciting things to come in the future from TRNC and our sister company, Active Engagement.

Buyer’s Remorse?
Thursday, May 28th, 2009
Yesterday I was privileged to be invited to a briefing by Bradley S. O’Leary, Founder and President of PM Consulting, and one of the sponsors of a recent John Zogby/PM poll on the first One Hundred Days of the Obama Administration. One of the interesting pieces of information that was discovered is that already, twenty percent of those who voted to elect Barack Obama President last November now say that they would not have voted for him if they had known that he was going to raise their taxes.
Uh-hum. Excuse me? Were these people actually alive and well during the election campaign leading up to Election Day 2008? Barack Obama consistently supported the scandalous “cap and trade” scheme that the Democrats, in cahoots with the wild-eyed environmentalists, are pushing through Congress. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, (not exactly a hot-bed of the radical right) has done independent research establishing that this scam will cost the average America family $3,100 per year in additional heating and utilities costs. This is a tax on every household in America. And it will hurt those most who can afford it least, the elderly, low income and and those on fixed incomes.
It is too late to do anything about their vote for Obama. He is, for better or for worse, the President of the United States for the next four years. But these same people who now realize that capping production of energy simply to drive up costs– for no apparent benefit– better wake up before it is too late and stop this catastrophic policy from becoming law or else they are really going to be suffering from buyer’s remorse.

Conservatives, Pennsylvania Republicans, It is time to get behind Pat Toomey
Thursday, May 7th, 2009
For the past week, since Arlen Specter ditched the GOP and went over to the place where his heart has always been, the Democrat Party, the press has been buzzing with rumors about Tom Ridge running for the Senate. Ridge appears to have seriously considered the possibility but today announced that he was not planing on running.
That is probably the best for Tom Ridge and Pat Toomey. In the end, had Ridge run, I believe Toomey would have beaten him. GOP Primary voters are always a more conservative group than the GOP as a whole. They almost took their nomination away from a four-term incumbent and gave it to challenger Toomey in 2004. Toomey missed by less than one vote per precinct. This, in spite of the fact that he was outspent three to one and he was a relative newcomer to most of the state.
Toomey has proven that he has voter appeal. With Ridge out of the way, the only possible primary opponent is the Congressman from the sixth district but he would not be as big a threat as Ridge.
Now is the time for conservatives across America to rally around Pat Toomey and let the people of Pennsylvania know they are pulling for Toomey. Now is the time for Republicans in Pennsylvania to get serious about beating Arlen Specter in the fall and get behind Toomey so he can focus on that victory.
Specter can be beaten and Pat Toomey is the man to do it.

Pat Toomey for United States Senate
Friday, May 1st, 2009
One of the truly rewarding aspects of the career I have pursued for the past thirty years is that I am able to pick and chose the causes and candidates I want to promote. In 2004, I had the privilege of being selected as the direct mail fundraiser for the Rep. Pat Toomey’s campaign for the Republican nomination for the United States Senate from Pennsylvania. The Richard Norman Company helped raise millions of dollars that year but unfortunately, President George W. Bush and Senator Rick Santorum endorsed Arlen Specter and campaigned for him confusing many conservative Republicans into thinking that Specter was acceptable. Specter, as a four-term incumbent in the majority party, had boatloads of money from special interests and he was able win by less than one vote per precinct!
This year, Pat Toomey again decided that Pennsylvania and America have had way too much of Arlen Specter and he once again announced that he was challenging Specter for the GOP nomination. Before Pat had even announced, Specter ran $100,000 of negative TV ads against Toomey as if to “fire a shot across the bow” in a warning of things to come. But the Quinnipiac University and the Rassmussen Polls both showed Specter trailing Toomey badly among likely GOP primary voters and Specter, in an act of sheer political preservation, switched parties giving Barak Obama the sixtieth vote he needs in the U.S. Senate.
I am thrilled that Pat has asked me to serve as his Senior Finance Consultant overseeing direct marketing on his 2010 campaign. In this capacity, I will oversee direct mail, telemarketing and online fundraising for his campaign. My goal is to make sure that no candidate, Democrat or Republican, raises more money than Pat to get his message out to the voters of Pennsylvania. We will cover the country with appeals for help from conservatives everywhere because we believe that the United States has suffered far too long with Arlen Specter in the Senate. It is an honor for me to serve in this capacity and for The Richard Norman Company to play a pivotal role in making this campaign a success.

The Launch
Thursday, February 12th, 2009
This week we launched a new venture. Call it a “new media” company or a “digital communications” company. Whichever. We are going to be assisting conservative organizations and candidates with the design, creation, posting and maintenance of web sites, helping with email distribution, list development, donor acquisition, text messaging, blogging, banner ads, basically anything and everything to do with digital communications and development.
The new company is called Active Engagement. We hope that our efforts will assist organizations to engage their members and activists in the political process by signing petitions, distributing educational information and basically doing an end-run on the liberal news media.
We hope that if your organization or candidate needs any assistance in digital communications you will give us a call.

The Cutting Edge
Monday, February 2nd, 2009
The future of direct marketing is unfolding before us every day. This past Thursday and Friday, I attended the Direct Marketing Association’s Nonprofit Conference in Washington, DC. While there I attended six sessions on integrated direct marketing. No longer is direct mail the only tool in the toolbox. Any direct marketing program that is successful today must be a fully-integrated program that includes mail, phones, web, text messaging, social networking, email, etc.
Here at The Richard Norman Company we are constantly working to improve upon the tried and true means of fundraising. We have been leaders in innovation in direct marketing over the past two decades and in the days ahead we will continue to be on the cutting edge. That is why we are proud to announce the formation of another company in the Richard Norman Company group of companies that will bring our clients the best and the brightest entrepreneurs in the world of Internet marketing. Be on the lookout for our announcement to come in just a few days for our new Internet marketing company.
